24 Apr LEAN ON ME

THIS IS MY FIRST OFFICIAL INTERVIEW FOR FIERCES CORNER AND I HAND PICKED MYSELF TO INTERVIEW C. CLARK. HE IS ONE OF THE MOST TALENTED ARTIST OUT RIGHT NOW AND I FELT THAT THE WORLD AND MYSELF SHOULD GET TO KNOW MR. LEAN ON ME A LITTLE BETTER. SO I HOPE YOU ALL ENJOY IT.

FIERCE: WHO IS C. CLARK?

C. CLARK: LAID BACK STAY TO HIMSELF TYPE  OF GUY  BOTTLES UP ALL OF HIS EMOTIONS AND PUTS IT INTO HIS MUSIC

FIERCE: WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START MAKING MUSIC?

C. CLARK: GOOD MUSIC IN THE MID 90’S LISTENING TO BIGGIE NAS TUPAC, ANDRE 3000 AND JAY Z THEY SEEMED TO DO IT SO EFFORTLESSLY WITHOUT BREAKING A SWEAT THAT WAS MY INSPIRATION

FIERCE: DO YOU REMEMBER THE FIRST TIME YOU WERE IN THE STUDIO?

C. CLARK: YEP. I WAS MORE EXCITED THAN NERVOUS. IT WAS VERY RAW (LAUGHS) AND I REMEMBER ME ATTACKING EVERY BAR  MORE THAN THE CONCEPT OF THE SONG.

FIERCE: TELL US ABOUT THE FIRST PROJECT, ALBUM, MIXTAPE THAT YOU RELEASED AND WHAT TYPE OF FEEL WERE YOU GOING FOR WITH IT?

C. CLARK: IN 2003 PUT OUT A 7 SONG CD CALLED “C CLARK PROMO” AND IT HAD GREEN MARK ON IT AND TO THIS DAY PEOPLE STILL TELL ME ABOUT THIS CD. A LOT  OF PEOPLE WERE SURPRISED BECAUSE OF MY PERSONALITY AND IT GOT GOOD REVIEWS AND IT ALSO GOT MIXED REVIEWS  BECAUSE I WAS STILL PLAYING BASKETBALL AND PEOPLE WERE WONDERING WHAT WAS I DOING

FIERCE: SO YOU JUST RELEASED “PRIVATE DANCER” FEATURING YAYA AND JJ DAE FOR YOUR NEWEST PROJECT. WHAT FEEL ARE YOU GOING FOR WITH THIS ALBUM?

C. CLARK: A LOT MORE VERSATILE. I THINK I AM RESPECTED AS ONE OF THE BEST LYRICIST AROUND THE AREA AND I WANT TO SHOWCASE THAT I CAN MAKE GREAT MUSIC FOR RADIO AND CLUBS OPPOSED TO MIXTAPE TYPE RECORDS.

FIERCE: WHO INSPIRED OR STILL INSPIRES YOU TO MAKE MUSIC?

C. CLARK:  TODAY MY FAVORITE RAPPERS ARE FABOLOUS, PUSHA T, TI, JEEZY, BASICALLY THE GUYS THAT HAVE BEEN DOING IT FOR A MINUTE. I RESPECT THE GUYS THAT SPEAK HONESTLY ABOUT WHAT THEY HAVE EXPERIENCED. I RESPECT THEIR BLEND OF HONESTY BUT ALSO ABLE TO BE ENTERTAINING.

FIERCE: WHAT DO YOU FEEL THAT YOU CAN BRING TO HIP HOP THAT IT MAY BE MISSING?

C. CLARK: A NEW BREED OF GOOD MUSIC. I SEE WHAT THE KENDRICK LAMARS ARE DOING AND THEY HAVE A 90’S FLOW BUT THEY HAVE A NEW STYLE TO TODAY’S RAP GAME AND I THINK I CAN BE ONE OF THOSE GUYS.

FIERCE: HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE MUSIC SCENE HERE IN SOUTH CAROLINA

C. CLARK: I FEEL LIKE HONESTLY I IT IS GETTING BETTER AS FAR AS A UNITY AS FAR AS THE ARTISTS . ME PERSONALLY I CHALLENGE SOME OF THE DJ’S NOT ONLY PLAY OUR MUSIC BUT TO HUMBLE THEMSELVES. WE DO WORK HARD AND WE NEED MORE OF A OPPORTUNITY.

FIERCE: WITH SO MUCH TALENT IN SOUTH CAROLINA WHY HASN’T THERE BEEN A ARTIST AS OF YET THAT HAS BROKE THROUGH TO MAINSTREAM?

C. CLARK: HATE (LAUGHS) I DO NOT WANT TO BE POLITICAL I JUST THINK IF SOMEBODY GETS A FOOT UP WE LOOK FOR THEIR WEAKNESS AND NOT THEIR STRENGTHS AND ON THE OTHER HAND A LOT  OF THE ARTIST THAT DO GET THE UPPER HAND ACT ARROGANT AND THAT DOES NOT HELP THE SITUATION.

FIERCE: TELL THE WORLD SOMETHING ABOUT YOU THAT THEY MAY NOT KNOW?

C. CLARK: WHEN I OPEN UP I OPEN UP. I AM A FAN OF COMEDY MOVIES AND A LOT  OF PEOPLE DISAGREE WITH ME BUT I FEEL THAT THEY HAVE THE DEEPEST MESSAGE OPPOSED  TO DRAMA.

FIERCE: WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 10 YEARS?

C. CLARK: STILL DOING THIS (MUSIC) I BELIEVE MY SPOT WILL BE SOLIDIFIED  GIVING BACK TO MY COMMUNITY AND  PUTTING OTHER ARTIST IN THE POSITION WHERE THEY CAN LIVE  OUT THEIR DREAMS.

FIERCE: IN REGARDS TO SOUTH CAROLINA ARTIST IN 10 YEARS DO YOU THINK WE WILL BE ON THE MAP SUCH AS ATLANTA?

C. CLARK: IT DEPENDS ON THE EGOS. WE HAVE THE FORMULA WE JUST HAVE TO EXECUTE  IT.
